ABOUT US
A little farm with big heart
Peppergreen Farm is a social enterprise of WISE Employment, with a supported workforce of more than 60 people. Located on two hectares of land near the heart of Bendigo, our small scale produce garden is a showcase of stunning Central Victorian farmland, open for the whole community to enjoy.
On our historically-significant patch of land, we have something to interest a variety of tastes! Pop into our retail space for locally-made gifts and fresh, seasonal produce, or enjoy a freshly prepared meal from our café outside in the garden.
We grow produce on site organically to use in our café and catering business. You can also purchase our fresh vegetables and flowers, or our jams and relishes made on site to take home. School and social groups are welcome to book a tour and we offer educational programs.
What is a social enterprise?
A social enterprise is a not-for-profit business initiative designed to provide training and employment to people with a disability or experiencing disadvantage. Peppergreen Farm offers a variety of skill development opportunities for people of all levels of experience including horticulture, service and retail.

Site history
Peppergreen Farm is on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung alongside the Bendigo Creek.
During the goldrush of the 1850’s, Chinese immigrants settled in the area and established a market garden where the farm is today.
There is a Joss House just across the road and a Chinese brick kiln is buried on the edge of the farm, believed to be the only one of its kind outside of Asia.
In 2005, a Melbourne University archaeological dig uncovered the kiln and other artefacts more than a metre under the ground. The site was deemed so precious that Heritage Victoria re-covered the site for it to be preserved.
